Castlebay View

Self Catering Property, Isle of Barra

Isle of Barra

There are a coupe of ways to travel to Barra. Travel to Oban where you will embark on a 5 hour ferry journey with Calmac, or travel from Glasgow on the 1 hour Loganair flight. Once you have arrived on the island you will find Castlebay View situated in Glen, right in the heart of Castlebay.

Castlebay View boasts picture-perfect views of Kisimul Castle; a medieval structure, which sits on a small island just in the bay.

Castlebay, also the name of the main village, is home to several grocery shops, a couple of hotels, post office, a bank and the ferry terminal linking the island to the mainland.

Barra and Vatersay offer many beaches and an array of wildlife to explore.

Vatersay located south, linked by a causeway, is a short drive and approximately three miles in length and roughly the same width.

Explore the unspoilt golden beaches on the island, keeping an eye for pods of dolphins.

There is a circular walk around the island for the energetic or it is possible to take a car up close to one of the many beaches for a picnic.

Barra airport known for the cockle shell landing strip, exposed at low tide, is on the northeast coast. If you are not arriving by plane, it’s worth checking the Loganair arrival/departure times to visit the famous airport.

To explore Eriskay and South Uist link up with the Ardmhor ferry crossing which takes around 40 minutes. Why not make a day of it and have some lunch in Eriskay or South Uist and return back to Castlebay to watch the sun set.

A break at Castlebay View will no doubt create memories for family and friends to last a lifetime.
